Commentary
Commentary The relief, found in a room of the sanctuary of Aphlad, depicts a priest who is perhaps the dedicant, offering a sacrifice of incense to the god Aphlad, represented, bearded and wearing a calathos, standing on the back of two griffon eagles. He wears a military breastplate and boots. His collar and belt are typically Parthian, as are his trousers. He holds a long sceptre in one hand and a lost object in the other. The inscription is engraved to the left of the god, above the priest.
