8 fragments of a stele, some of them found on the Acropolis or below its N slope. Two decrees (l. 1-12/15: Council; l. 12/15-40: People) granting citizenship to the seer Sthorys of Thasos for the part he played in a sea-battle, most probably the battle of Knidos (394 BCE). The decrees were to be published on the Acropolis (thus, original location of the stele) and in the Pythion (l. 9-13); the provisions were guaranteed by a fine to Athena and Pythian Apollo (l. 36-38). These places of publications and the deities associated to them (Acropolis/Athena and Pythion/Pythian Apollo) emphasizes, respectively, the political importance of the decrees (context of a military victory, grant of citizenship), and the activity of their beneficiary (divination, possibly linked to the cult of Pythian Apollo: see Pouilloux, Recherches sur Thasos I (1954), p. 196). 8 fragments d'une stèle, trouvés pour certains sur l'Acropole, ou en contrebas de son versant N. Deux décrets (l. 1-12/15 : Conseil ; l. 12/15-40 : Peuple) accordant la citoyenneté au devin Sthorys de Thasos pour les bons présages obtenus avant une bataille navale, selon toute probabilité la bataille de Cnide (394 av. n.è.). Les décrets devaient être publiés sur l'Acropole (lieu d'origine de la stèle, par conséquent) et au Pythion (l. 9-13) ; les clauses en étaient garanties par une amende à Athéna et à Apollon Pythien (l. 36-38). Ces lieux de publication et les divinités qui y sont associées (Acropole/Athéna et Pythion/Apollon Pythien) soulignent respectivement l'importance politique des décrets (contexte de victoire militaire, octroi de citoyenneté) et l'activité de leur bénéficiaire (mantique, peut-être en lien avec le culte d'Apollon Pythien : cf. Pouilloux, Recherches sur Thasos I (1954), p. 196). |
