Commentary

Stele in white marble depicting the following relief: "Gladiator fighting, facing right; cnemid on left leg; bands on knee and ankle of right leg; belt, protecting upper thighs; bands, interlaced, covering right arm; shoulder pad on right shoulder, with strap passing over left shoulder; holds dagger in right; parries blow with rectangular shield with umbo; round helmet, pierced with holes in front of face and protecting neck, shoulders and upper chest. On the ground, a palm. In the field, six crowns; in one ΠΑΔ, πά(λος) (τέταρτος). Above, the inscription" (Robert, Gladiateurs [1940], p. 165).

Stèle en marbre blanc représentant le relief suivant : "Gladiateur combattant, tourné vers la droite ; cnémide à la jambe gauche ; bandes au genou et à la cheville de la jambe droite ; ceinture, protégeant le haut des cuisses ; bandes, entrelacées, couvrant le bras droit ; épaulière à l’épaule droite, avec courroie passant sur l’épaule gauche ; tient dans la droite le poignard ; pare un coup avec le bouclier rectangulaire à umbo ; casque rond, percé de trous devant le visage et protégeant le cou, les épaules et le haut de la poitrine. A terre, une palme. Dans le champ, six couronnes ; dans l’une ΠΑΔ, πά(λος) (τέταρτος). Au-dessus, l’inscription" (Robert, Gladiateurs [1940], p. 165).
