Commentary
Commentary Stele bought at an auction in Pest, but provenance uncertain. Aquincum has been suggested, but without any real arguments. In the centre of the pediment, the bust of a woman and that of a man; the woman places her hand on the shoulder of a child. The child appears to be holding a bird. Under this register, a scene of sacrifice. The text is bilingual: Latin, but in Greek characters, and Greek. The inscription was carved after the image and is therefore not directly related to it. Three images of menorahs have also been added subsequently.
