Commentary |
The discus is decorated with concentric lines. It weighs about 4 kg and has a diameter of about 15 cm. A very similar circular inscription is engraved on both sides (I.Olympia 240 and 241). Palms mark the beginning of the text. J. Ebert (1987) proposed that the Alytarchus Scribonius, mentioned in inscription 240, had the disc inscribed on one side several years or even several Olympiads before the victory of Publius Asklepiades celebrated in inscription 241, on the other side of the disc. Le disque est décoré de lignes concentriques. Il pèse environ 4 kg et son diamètre est d'environ 15 cm. Une inscription circulaire très semblable est gravée sur les deux faces (I.Olympia 240 et 241). Des palmes marquent le début du texte. J. Ebert (1987) a proposé que l'Alytarque Scribonius, mentionné dans l'inscription 240, ait fait inscrire le disque sur une face plusieurs années, voire plusieurs olympiades, avant la victoire de Publius Asklepiadès célébrée dans l'inscription 241, sur l'autre face du disque.
