Commentary

Different interpretations have been proposed for this altar: for some scholars, it is a dedication made either by a Jew or by a theosebes. According to another interpretation, the inscription should be linked to the cult of Zeus Hupsistos.
The acclamation (l. 1-2) is engraved on the upper part of the front of the altar, and the dedication (l. 3-5) on the lower part.
Différentes interprétations ont été proposées pour cet autel : pour certains, il s'agit d'une dédicace faite soit par un Juif, soit par un theosebes. Selon une autre interprétation, l'inscription doit être mise en lien avec le culte de Zeus Hupsistos.
L'acclamation (l. 1-2) est gravée sur la partie supérieure de la face avant de l'autel, et la dédicace (l. 3-5) sur la partie inférieure.
