In the Ḥaurān, Ares appears only in this inscription; there is no indication that the dedicator is a soldier. Ares is attested in Palmyra, in one of the four sanctuaries of the four civic tribes, that of Arsou. The same is true of the city of Rabbatmoba-Areopolis, where Arsou is the tutelary god. The Haurean Ares is therefore an Arab god. Nonnos of Panopolis (XX, 214) makes him the father of Lycurgus, the adversary of Dionysus, particularly honoured in Ḥaurān.
Dans le Ḥaurān, Arès n’apparaît que dans cette inscription ; rien ne permet de dire que le dédicant est un soldat. Arès est attesté à Palmyre, dans l’un des quatre sanctuaires des quatre tribus civiques, celui d’Arsou. De même dans la ville de Rabbatmoba-Aréopolis dont Arsou est le dieu tutélaire.
