Commentary According to Aliquot 2015, p. 550 (translated) : "Paying homage, on the same monument, to an anonymous ancestral god, in Greek, and to the Genius of the people of the colony, in Latin, the Maximites show their fidelity to a local deity as much as to the religious institutions of Berytos. The evocation of the homeland at the end of the Greek text reinforces the patriotic dimension of their act of piety." The Maximites are known only through this texs. They organise banquets in honour of the ancestral god, most probably Balmarcod, here clearly close to Dionysus.
Commentary In another inscription of Deir el-Qalaa, Baalmarcod is referred to as : Βαλμαρκως κοίρανε κώμων, "lord of the dances".
