Commentary
Commentary The name of the legion to which the soldier belongs has been hammered and it is the Third Gallica Legion. The final word seems an ethnic, because of the mention of the Agoubênoi by Claudius Ptolemy (Geography V, 18), who according to him live on the margins of Arabia Felix. For this reason, the word is corrected by Littmann (PAES III A, 795) in Agoubênos. The second addresser is the brother of the soldier, who appears as co-dedicant, but does not have the status of soldier; we can easily imagine that the origin is the same.
Commentary The ancestral god mentioned here is clearly identified with Zeus, as is the case of Mushennef (IGLS XVI, 815), which does not avoid any ambiguity since it can be the ancestral god of Mseikeh as well as that of the homeland of origin of the dedicants.
